Vicentina White Storks - Alentejo Walking Holidays
December 9, 2014
Ready to watch white stroks along the coastal tracks of Rota Vicentina fishermens trail?
At the south-western coast of Portugal many different species of birds can be spotted, among them, the white stork has a very particular behaviour. During the winter time the most of the storks of this region migrate to Africa, coming back when spring time starts to settle their nests, usually, in the very same place. Besides the normal nesting on top of poles and chimneys, here the white storks also settle their nests in the cliffs. A very uncommon nesting behaviour, maybe the only place in the World where such thing can be seen, said by the expertise. During the way between Almograve and Zambujeira do Mar, passing by Cabo Sardão, one of the most appreciated tracks / Paths of the route, there’s the chance to observe this interesting phenomenon.
